Hyderabad, Nov 24 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday filed an additional charge sheet against former Satyam Computer Services founder-chairman B. Ramalinga Raju and others accused in the Rs.78-billion (Rs.7,800 crore) accounting scam that rocked the country earlier this year.
The federal agency filed the 200-page charge sheet along with 1,500 documents spanning 55,000 pages in the special court for CBI cases around 4.30 p.m.
The new charge sheet contains details of the properties acquired by Raju and the other accused and their financial transactions abroad through fictitious firms.
It also listed charges against V.S. Prabhakar Gupta, head of internal audit of Satyam, who was arrested by the CBI two days ago.
Gupta, the 10th accused in the case, has been charged with breach of trust, forgery, cheating and fabrication of accounts.
The multi-disciplinary investigation team comprising officials of the CBI, the income tax department, enforcement directorate and the Reserve Bank of India, has also gathered details of Raju’s bank transactions in Mauritius.
The CBI April 7 had filed a charge sheet against Raju and eight others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and forgery.
The financial scam came to light Jan 7 when Raju quit as Satyam chairman while confessing that he had cooked the company’s accounts to show inflated profits over the past several years.
Ramalinga Raju and his brother and then managing director Rama Raju were arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police two days later. Former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas was picked up the next day.
Two auditors were also arrested the same month.
The CBI, which began the investigations in February, arrested three executives of Satyam’s finance wing in April.
All the accused are currently lodged in Chanchalguda central jail here.
