New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) United States-based think tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is keen to set up a centre in New Delhi aimed to increase its presence in South Asia, senior official said Wednesday.
“Given India’s vital geo-political importance, Carnegie is eager to explore creating a South Asia centre here,” Jessica Mathews, president of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said after meeting Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee at his North Block office here.
“We are greatly encouraged by the interest shown by senior Indian officials and leaders in this regard,” Mathews said.
Founded in 1910, Carnegie Endowment is a private, non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and promoting active international engagement by the United States.
A delegation led by Carnegie Endowment for International Peace chairman Sir Richard Giordano met Mukherjee to discuss its plan of expansion in the region and scope of cooperation with India.
The high level delegation included Bharti Enterprises chief Sunil Bharti Mittal among others. Mittal is a member of the board of trustees of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
