Car sales rise 22 percent, two-wheelers up 17 percent
December 8th, 2009 - 4:52 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 8 (IANS) Passenger car-sales in the domestic market soared 22.06 percent in the first eight months this fiscal while two wheeler-sales jumped 17.63 percent, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The data released by SIAM Tuesday showed that utility vehicle-sales rose 12.15 percent during April-November, while multi-purpose vehicles reported a growth of 31.46 percent in sales.
Also, the sales of mopeds, scooters and motorcycles grew by 29.54 percent, 15.12 percent and 17.79 percent, respectively.
SIAM added that the overall commercial vehicles segment also registered positive growth of 12.44 percent during the period.
Light commercial vehicle-sales grew by 27.39 percent, while medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MHCV) reported a fall of 2.41 percent.
According to SIAM, the overall automobile exports registered a growth of 8.16 percent during April-November.
This export-growth was mainly driven by passenger vehicles and two wheelers segments, which saw a jump of 28.82 percent and 4.76 percent, respectively, in their overseas sales.
Commercial vehicle and three wheeler sectors reported a fall of 22.31 percent and 3.9 percent, respectively, in their exports during April-November, SIAM added.
