Canada, UAE vow to boost trade ties

Ottawa, June 14 (IANS/WAM) Canada and the UAE have vowed to strengthen bilateral ties, especially in trade and investment.
At a meeting between visiting UAE minister of foreign trade Sheikha Lubna Qasimi and Canadian Prime Minister Steven Harper Sunday, both leaders discussed bilateral relations and the means to boost and develop them in all fields especially in trade and investment.

Lubna pointed out that the UAE economy registered a positive growth this year. She stressed that ties between the two countries are unique, especially with the increase in bilateral trade.

She invited Canadian companies to increase their economic involvement in the UAE either through the trade fairs that the UAE hosts annually or through frequent business visits.

UAE-Canadian commercial ties have experienced a noticeable improvement during the past years. Trade exchange between both countries increased from $706 million in 2007 to $1.536 billion in 2008.
