CAG audit for all rural ministry schemes: Ramesh
July 20th, 2011 - 8:06 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, July 20 (IANS) Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh said Wednesday that his ministry will go for comprehensive audit of all its schemes by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
Ramesh, who met CAG Vinod Rai here Wednesday, said the ministry will sign a memorandum of understanding with the CAG for audit of its schemes.
He said the CAG had informed him that they were willing to appoint special auditor generals for rural development and local government programmes in eight states which get maximum funds from the rural development ministry.
The minister said he was going Thursday on a two-day visit to Kanker and Dhamtari, two Maoist hit areas of Chhattisgarh, to review implementation of rural development programmes.
He said that performance of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was about 32 percent in the the 60 Maoist affected districts and 59 percent in other rural areas.
The minister said he intends to travel to two states every month.
