Cabinet approves new quay at Visakhapatnam port
November 26th, 2010 - 10:33 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 26 (IANS) The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure (CCI) Friday approved the development of a new quay at the Visakhapatnam port at an estimated cost of Rs.323.18 crore.
The development of East Quay 1 (EQ1) berth will be done by replacing the existing berth and part of EQ2 berth for handling steam coal in the inner harbour of Visakhapatnam Port, an official release said.
The construction of the 280 metre new berth would allow the port to handle 14 metre draft vessels with a capacity of 6.41 million tonnes of steam coal. The berth would also be installed with mechanical unloading facilities for steam coal.
According to the cabinet panel, the development of the berth, based on the design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis, would be completed within 24 months from the date of award of the concession for the project.
