Britons lose jobs for being ‘work shy’
October 15th, 2011 - 7:10 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Oct 15 (IANS) British workers are losing jobs to migrants because some firms think they are work-shy, expensive and unreliable, a media report said Saturday.
Daily Express reported how MP Henry Smith has told the House of Commons that the cleaning company Jani-King allegedly fired two of its workers for simply being British.
One of the workers says she was told UK workers were lazy and inefficient compared with East Europeans. Smith is now set for a showdown with Jani-King bosses Monday.
“It is my concern I might have lifted the lid on something very sinister in certain sectors of the economy,” he said Friday night.
The company denies that it had acted improperly and insisted it was an equal opportunities employer.
