London, Jan 11 (IANS) The royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton - likely to be a major tourist attraction to Britain this year - may be hampered with British Airways and metro union workers planning to launch a strike during that period. The wedding is slated for April 29.
British Airways cabin crews and London Underground drivers’ next wave of action may include April 29, sources told The Sun.
“We don’t want to do it, but if it has to be done to solve this dispute, so be it,” a union member said.
This action could cause huge damage to British Airways as the London wedding is likely to be the biggest tourist event of the year.
London Underground drivers also threatened to strike April 29.
Tube drivers’ union Aslef said its members would walk out in support of a demand for extra bank holiday pay.
But its general secretary, Keith Norman, said April 29 has not been discussed by their executive.
A Downing Street spokesman said any rail strike on the royal wedding day “would be seen as a cynical attempt to undermine a day of national celebrations”.
Last year’s strikes by cabin crews cost the airline 140 million pounds.
