London, Mar 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A strike by the British Airways personnel is all set to start on Saturday, because the negotiations between the management and the union failed. If the strike starts then it would be have global consequences as well. The talks were held between the British Airways CEO Willie Walsh and Unite labor leader Tony Woodley, but they didn’t see eye to eye on the issues, and the 3-day strike is all set to start on Saturday. The CEO Walsh made some offers to the union management, but the management said that the offer was not acceptable as it was inferior.
The union also said that there might be another 4-day strike next week too. “I am extremely disappointed for the traveling public and our members, but this union will now support our members, while remaining open for talks with the company,” Woodley said on Friday. Meanwhile the CEO Walsh said that the airline “deeply regrets” any inconvenience to the airline’s customers.
As reports of the strike spread, around 103,000 passengers have canceled their booking with the airline company. The cancellations will cost the airline around 27 million pounds. Around 6000 staff members have been roped in to help the airline company, in view of the strike.
