British Airways completes oneworld co-location in Tokyo
October 26th, 2010 - 5:07 am ICT by BNO NewsLONDON (BNO NEWS) — British Airways on Monday announced that it completed a co-location at Tokyo Narita International Airport for all oneworld member airlines serving Tokyo.
British Airways and the other oneworld alliance members will transfer its operations to Terminal 2 at Tokyo Narita next Sunday. Japan Airlines, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Finnair and Qantas are already operating at the new location.
The move will speed up connections for passengers who are traveling between British Airways and its oneworld partners at Tokyo Narita. The Asian location is one of oneworld’s hey hubs in the continent.
Among the five airlines operating at terminal 2, around 750 arrivals and departures operate per week at the Tokyo airport. The five oneworld alliance members provide nonstop service for 50 destinations worldwide.
British Airways’ terminal switch completes one of the alliance’s biggest airport co-location projects that began when Japan Airlines joined oneworld alliance three years ago. The Japanese carrier has also enhanced its relations with other alliance members.
In February, Japan Airlines and American Airlines agreed a proposed joint business between North America and Asia, which they aim to launch early next year.
Oneworld’s member airlines will also be celebrating their co-location at Tokyo Haneda next Sunday, the same day of British Airways’ relocation. At Tokyo Haneda, the alliance members will offer more international capacity and the biggest domestic schedule.
Oneworld brings together some of the best and biggest names in the airline business like American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Mexicana, Qantas and Royal Jordanian, and around 20 affiliates.
