Britain keen to invest in Himachal Pradesh
March 17th, 2011 - 9:56 pm ICT by IANSShimla, March 17 (IANS) The British government is looking for business opportunities in Himachal Pradesh, an official said Thursday.
“We are keen to invest in horticulture and tourism sectors in the state,” said Jane Sanders, deputy head of the UK Trade and Investment Office in New Delhi, while interacting with industrialists in Baddi, some 85 km from here.
Sanders said Britain was also exploring investment opportunities in agriculture, education and infrastructure.
“There are many opportunities which the UK traders are exploring in the field of infrastructure in India. Likewise, many companies are interested in agriculture, education, manufacturing, innovation, engineering and financial services,” Sanders added.
The bilateral trade between India and Britain stood at 11.5 billion pounds in 2009.
Himachal Pradesh economy is highly dependent on hydro-electric power, horticulture and tourism.
