Britain-based centre to work on Bihar’s development
December 22nd, 2009 - 1:54 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Patna, Dec 22 (IANS) Britain-based International Growth Centre (IGC) will begin to work for the development of Bihar in March next year, an official said Tuesday.
“The IGC has decided to go ahead with its plans to begin work for the development of Bihar in March next year. The IGC team is trying to understand Bihar’s problems. After that IGC will join hands with Patna-based ADRI (Asian Development Research Institute) to begin work for development of the state,” the official in the chief minister office said, not wanting to be identified as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
IGC, a joint initiative of the London School of Economics (LSE) and the University of Oxford for promoting sustainable growth in developing countries, has chosen Bihar, one of India’s least developed states, to begin its work in India.
IGC co-director Robin Burges said the IGC has already initiated the process to set up an office in Patna.
“The role of the IGC is to help developing countries find their own solutions to economic growth problems. The IGC promotes sustainable growth in developing countries by providing demand-led policy advice based on frontier research,” Burges told IANS.
