Brazil registers 23.5 percent less jobs in 2011
January 25th, 2012 - 2:46 pm ICT by IANSRio de Janeiro, Jan 25 (IANS) The Brazilian economy generated 1.94 million formal jobs in 2011, down 23.5 percent from 2010, the country’s labor ministry said Tuesday.
Yet the ministry said that despite the fall, the figures are still the second highest registered in the country after the record-high 2.5 million job mark registered in 2010, reported Xinhua.
From January to November, Brazil registered a job generation of 2.3 million, but due to the negative results registered in December, attributed to “seasonal effects” on all sectors of the economy, the final figures fell short of 2 million.
Interim Labor Minister Paulo Roberto Pinto, who took over after Carlos Lupi resigned in November, said the prospects are good for 2012.
He said the Brazilian economy will generate 2 million jobs this year.
