BP to test the containment cap in the leaking oilrig
July 13th, 2010 - 8:32 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )New York, July 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) BP would know in 48 hours whether it has finally been able to stop the oil that is leaking into the Gulf.
BP installed a new, well-fitted cap on the leaking well on Monday. BP will start tests on Tuesday to identify whether the leaking has finally been stopped or not. It has nearly been 3 months since the leak began. But the containment is only temporary and it will give the oil giant the needed time to find a lasting solution to the leak.
But scientists maintain that the mess that was created by the leaking oil is far from over. But at least the seal brings a relief to residents at the Gulf Coast most of whom are fishermen.
Robots on Monday carefully fixed the containment cap in place. The new cap replaces the earlier cap that was removed earlier. If the cap is able to withstand the pressure of the rushing oil, BP officials will give a big sigh of relief.
This is the best result BP has gotten since it started trying to fix the leak. The company has thus far spent about $3.5 billion in trying to fix the leak and clean up the mess created by the leak.
