oil1July 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Finally there is a ray of hope and a sigh of relief for southeast Louisiana citizens as BP has temporarily found out a solution to stop the oil leak. Yesterday, July 15, 2010 BP monitored half turns of a valve 5,000 feet under the sea and placed a new cap over the leak. This is the first time after 85 days that any positive change has happened in the worst Gulf oil leak disaster in U.S. history.

The Vice President of the London-based company BP, Kent Walls was optimistic when he said that the oil leak stopped at 2:25 p.m. after engineers gradually lessened the amount of oil flowing through the last of three openings on the 75-ton metal capping stack. The Vice President was excited with their developments in stopping the oil leak but then again he warned that it was only the beginning of a long integrity test of the well where BP would keep the cap closed for 48 hours to see if it can withstand the pressure of the oil without making a new leak in the well due to pressure. If they find the low pressure generated inside then they would open the caps as it could generate new leak.

The U.S. President Barack Obama said that the recent development is a “positive sign” but then he also added that the officials are still in a testing phase. National Incident Commander Thad Allen said in a statement that BP will have to re-open the flow of oil from the well and collect as much as 80,000 barrels of oil in a day until the well can be permanently plugged. He also mentioned that the full seal could be a “side benefit” for the oil leak case in the Gulf Of Mexico.
