The Bangkok Governor, Mr. Apirak Kosayodhin, inspected the water barriers along the Chao Phraya River in the capital and the Sam Sen Water Pump Station.
Mr. Apirak affirmed that relevant units can effectively prevent water from Chao Phraya River from flooding into the inner areas of Bangkok. He said officials have constructed 86.5 out of 95 kilometers of water barriers so far, and the task should be complete by 2010. He said the Sam Sen Water Pump Station can help drain out floodwater at the rate of 45 cubic meters per second.
Governor Apirak said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will discuss flood preventive measures in the capital with the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) and the Hydrographic Department, following the flood warnings issued by certain academics.
