Mar 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Houston Texas has lost one of their most generous philanthropists at the age of 77. Dan Duncan, headed Enterprise, Duncan Energy Partners, and Enterprise GP Holdings as chairman. The report of his death was released by Enterprise Products Partners. He is said to have died unexpectedly at his home in River Oaks on Sunday night.

Dan and Jan Duncan have been avid supporters of medical causes and gave very generous contributions to the Texas Medical Center. Mr. Duncan and his wife donated a 100 million dollar gift to Baylor College of Medicine in 2006, and then again in 2008, they made headlines when they gave a 35 million dollar gift to M.D.Anderson Cancer Center, and a 50 million dollar gift to Texas Children’s Hospital. He was named the 74th richest man in the world this year, but seems to have gave as much and more than many who had far more than he does. His wealth according to Forbes was 9 billion dollars. He was at the top of the wealthiest people in Houston.

He was said to be soft spoken and not one to try to draw attention. He hailed from Shelby County Texas. Duncan went to Massey Business College and his studies included finance and accounting at South Texas College in McAllen. He began Enterprise Products Co. in 1968 and took Enterprise Products Partners public in 1998.

“The entire Enterprise family mourns the unexpected passing of Dan Duncan who will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family” said Michael A. Creel, Enterprise president and CEO. Our prayers go out to the family as well.
