bicycle_bellMar 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The bicycle bells marketed by a company named ‘Do It Best’ have been recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall has been issued as the agency has found out that the amount of lead paint in these bells is not safe for usage. Almost 1000 bicycle bells painted in black, white and red will be recalled. These were imported from China. The bicycle bells were sold from the Do It Best Hardware stores and Dollar Stores all over the nation. They were sold in 2008 and 2009 mainly. They were sold for $1 a piece. The users who bought the bells have been asked to return them and seek refund.

It has been found that the red paint used on the bells contain hazardous amount of lead and prolonged use of these can lead to health problems for the users. This is not the first time that a product made in china is being recalled in the US market. Several types of children’s products and toys made in China have come under recall earlier. Lead poisoning has made the health experts worried worldwide and the products that may contain impermissible amount of lead should be withdrawn from market, as they feel. Particularly, the kids who are below six years of age tend to absorb lead faster and more from such products compared to others.

Lead exposure can cause severe damage to the nervous system and brain of a person. Lead poisoning can be slow and hard to detect in many cases. Hence, the bicycle bell recall is a wise step taken by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
