Washington, Mar 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Bicycle bells are being recalled by the hardware store chain ‘Do It Best Corp’ because of high lead levels in the paint. It says that the bells are painted on with a paint that has too much lead to be safe for children. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission confirmed the recall, and said that it is a voluntary recall. However there haven’t been any untoward incidents due to the high lead levels in the bells.
The bicycle bells are multicolored and have the colors – red, black and white. And on the top of the bell, ‘I (heart) My Bike’ is painted. It was sold for $1 at numerous Dollar Stores and Do It Best Hardware locations through out the nation, from the time period August 2008 to August 2009. It is also being reported that the red paint on the $1 bike bell contains excessive amounts of lead, that can be deemed fit for the children. The lead content is also beyond the federal standards.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission notified the consumers who have the $1 multicolored bells, that they ought to immediately return it to the store and get a refund, in lieu of it. Customers who want more information on the bell recall can call up the toll free number 877-326-8954.
