March 29th, 2010 - 10:34 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, March 29 (IANS) Bhilai Steel Plant, the flagship unit of India’s largest steel major in public sector Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), will set up two oxygen units, each with a capacity of 1,250 tonnes per day.
R. Ramaraju, managing director, Bhilai Steel Plant, Monday laid the foundation stone for the two state-of-the-art cryogenic air separation units (ASUs), each with a capacity of 1,250 tonnes per day, a statement of the plant said.
“The project, part of Bhilai Steel Plant’s modernisation and expansion plan, is a multifarious project that will be completed ahead of schedule,” the statement informed.
It added that the project will enable supply of oxygen that is highly important for plant operations and will also enable supply of argon and nitrogen to various existing as well as new and upcoming production facilities at the Bhilai Steel Plant.
The first stage of the project is scheduled to be completed in 30 months.
The plant, based some 30 km west of Chhattisgarh capital Raipur, is investing some Rs.17,000 crore on modernisation and expansion work to raise its annual hot metal production from about 5.3 million tonnes to 7.5 million tonnes by 2011-12.
