Bharti Wal-Mart to train Delhi’s unemployed youth
June 22nd, 2010 - 12:15 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 21 (IANS) The Delhi government Monday decided to sign an agreement with wholesale chain Bharti Wal-Mart to improve the employment potential of the capital’s youth by offering them short-term vocational courses.
A meeting of the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, approved the proposal to ensure that youths get a jobs at a decent wage on successful completion of training.
“A memorandum of agreement between the department of training and technical education and Bharti Wal-Mart will be signed in this regard. Although, there is a shortage of skilled manpower in the city, the government is committed to overcome the problem,” the chief minister told reporters.
The collaboration will go a long way in helping and defining the vision of skill development for employability in Delhi, she added.
As per the proposal, the company will provide free training to the students, on all working days between 4 p.m to 8p.m and from 9.30 a.m to 6 p.m on Saturdays and Sundays.
The ownership of the class rooms and facilities will remain with the government, while the company will be able to modify the syllabus as per the industry’s requirement.
Bharti Wal-Mart is a joint venture between Wal-Mart Inc, the largest retail chain in the world, and Bharti Enterprises, India’s largest mobile telephone service provider.
