Bengal wants uniform credit card for MSME sector
November 3rd, 2011 - 3:30 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Nov 3 (IANS) The West Bengal government has urged leading public sector banks to launch a uniform credit card for the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector in the state.
“Different banks have different credit cards for MSME. We have requested the banks to prepare a uniform credit card,” Micro and Small Scale Enterprises and Textile Minister Manas Bhuniya told reporters on the sidelines of a programme organised by FICCI here Wednesday.
“They (banks) are studying this matter to come to a policy decision,” he said.
Added A.K. Chanda, additional chief secretary, department of state micro and small scale enterprises and textile: “We reached a consensus that there will be a common format (on credit cards for MSME) and it will start (providing credit to the sector) right from the commencement of production.”
He said a new textile policy would be announced very soon.
“This is a very complex matter. We have to conduct an all India study. We have to see the policies in other states and the government of India,” he said.
Chanda said a working group had been formed to frame the textile policy.
“Various stakeholders are the members of the group. The stakeholders’ consultation process has already been started,” he added.
Bhuniya said that an institute would be set up in the Salt Lake area of the city exclusively for an MSME management course.
