Kolkata, July 2 (IANS) West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra Saturday said the state government was aiming at an economic growth rate of 14 percent this fiscal.
“We are aiming at a growth rate of 14 percent in the state. Both social and physical infrastructures are the key for development,” Mitra said during the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FICCI) national executive committee meeting here.
He said the government will invest about Rs.2,200 crore in infrastructure.
“Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s objective is to create one million jobs in the next 10 years,” he said.
Informing that the state has a debt of about Rs.2 lakh crore and cash deficit of Rs.9,000 crore, Mitra said revenue deficit would be brought down to 1.58 percent from the current 3.37 percent of the state Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Both fiscal deficit and revenue deficit will come down, he stated.
Stating that the mindset about West Bengal was changing outside the state, Mitra said: “Banerjee has declared that there will be no shutdown in the state. In the last two years, the Trinamool Congress has not called for any shutdown.”
On implementation of the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the country, he said: “We will work towards building the consensus on GST across political parties.”
