Bengal addressing technical manpower shortage, says minister
June 10th, 2012 - 12:03 am ICT by IANSBaruipur (West Bengal) June 9 (IANS) Conceding a dearth of technical workforce in West Bengal, state Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee Saturday said the government was attaching more importance to technical education by setting up more such institutes.
“The government is looking to build a number of technical institutes (ITIs) as there is a dearth of technical manpower,” Chatterjee said after inaugurating a Rs.120 crore private wagon making unit in South 24-Parganas district.
“Many entrepreneurs want to set up industry in the state. But for industry you need technical manpower along with land and money. So we are looking at setting up ITIs to equip more people with technical knowledge,” he said.
Chatterjee, however, said there must be lesser friction between the workers and the management to ensure industrial progress.
Besko Limited Foundry Division set up a wagon line with a capacity of 3,000 wagons per year on its existing 14-acre land where a foundry already exists.
The unit will provide employment to over 1,200 workers and skilled technicians in the foundry and wagon units.
