beekmanSep 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The New York skyline is changing and not everyone has a proper consent of it. The latest skyscraper that is under scanner is set to be constructed just a few blocks away from the Empire State building. Several people have protested that the new building could undermine the beauty of the iconic building. Another recent addition to the skyline that has got people talking is the Beekman tower that has become a rage on the web for its almost unreal design.

The tower was designed by Frank Gehry and will become one of the tallest buildings in the city after its launch later this year. The building gives the impression of movement due to the undulating steel surface. The rippling effect on the steel frame of the 76 storey is sure to get a lot of responses from the passerby. The building is located south of the City Hall Plaza and the Brooklyn Bridge. After the launch the Beekman Tower will house a public elementary school, some luxury apartments and also a space for a New York downtown hospital. There is also provision for an underground parking lot. Frank Gehry’s design was given shape by the New York developer Forest City Ratner.

Legendary architect Frank Gehry had revealed earlier that the design of the Beekman Tower was inspired by the drapery on the marble structures by the 17th century Baroque artist Gianlorenzo Bernini. Known for his DeCon style of architecture, the design of the Beekman Tower has all the elements of functionality in spite of the almost bizarre design. Many have called the rippling effect seen on the structure to be reminiscent of the latest Hollywood blockbuster ‘Inception’. In the movie, the actors possess the power to modify structures within their dreams.
