New Delhi, May 7 (IANS) Work on the transmission line connecting India and Bangladesh for supplying 250 MW electricity is expected to be completed by 2013, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said Saturday.
“The work on the transmission line to connect India and Bangladesh for supply of the 250 MW power promised by India is proceeding apace. We expect power to flow by 2013,” Mukherjee said in a statement by his ministry.
The minister also said that maintaining good relations with neighbours is a foreign policy priority for India.
The joint communique issued at the end of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in January 2010 is a landmark document which will lead to further cementing of bilateral ties, he said.
According to Mukherjee, both countries have been making strenuous efforts to implement the plans listed in the joint communique, including cooperation in areas of security, power and connectivity.
He also asked Bangladesh to help in India’s anti-terror operations so that terrorist violence does not disrupt relations between the two countries.
