Bangladesh takes sanitation lessons from Tripura
December 18th, 2010 - 6:35 pm ICT by IANSAgartala, Dec 18 (IANS) The Bangladesh government is learning from the Indian state of Tripura how to maintain sanitation and supply drinking water in mountainous regions.A 12-member team, led by local government department Joint Secretary Zuena Aziz, is on a 10-day visit to Tripura to study the implementation, management and operation of various sanitation and drinking water supply projects.
“The topography and terrain of India’s northeast region and Bangladesh’s Chittagong area are quite comparable. The life, culture, tradition besides problems of people of the two regions are also similar,” Aziz told IANS Saturday.
“Tripura is successfully implementing and managing sanitation and drinking water supply schemes and we are trying to study about their design, plan and method,” she said.
“Besides visiting remote hilly areas of Tripura, the Bangladeshi officials are also holding meetings with officials of the Tripura government,” Aziz said.
A senior engineer of Tripura’s drinking water and sanitation department said that the government has finalised a scheme for rain water harvesting in hilly areas.
