Bangkok Bank staff seek early payment

Bangkok, 10 December, 2007 (PRD), Bangkok Bank staff have demanded that an extra bonus approved by management be paid out along with their regular bonus at the end of the year, instead of in January as previously announced.

The present steep cost of living, owing to higher oil prices, was cited by BBL’s labor union as the reason for the insistence of earlier payment.

Labour union chairman Chaisit Suksomboon (ชัยสิทธิ สุขสมบูรณ) said the management had already agreed to a special one-month bonus, set to paid in January, but the union has asked that the extra bonus be incorporated into the regular bonus.

Bangkok Bank , the Kingdom’s largest bank by assets, usually pays an annual bonus of two months’ salary, parceled out at two different times - in the middle of the year and at year’s end.

Prior to this, the bank staff received a bonus of one month in June.
