Bajaj Auto’s third quarter profit jumps 40 percent
January 19th, 2011 - 4:19 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) Two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto Wednesday reported a 40 percent growth in its net profit for the third quarter of the current fiscal, which stood at Rs.667 crore as against Rs.457 crore in 2009-10.The auto-major posted a net sales growth of 17 percent at 946,850 units in the third quarter as compared to 809,218 units in the like period of last fiscal year.
According to the company, the overall growth was recorded despite an increase in the input cost.
“In this challenging environment, the company’s focus on high-end motorcycles enabled it to maintain record high margins in access of 20 percent,” said the company in a statement.
The company sold 598,558 units of motorcycles in the domestic market with a growth of 23 percent compared to 488,146 units in the corresponding period of last fiscal year.
The company’s motorcycle exports increased by seven percent to 239,929 units from 223,845 units in the like period of last fiscal year.
The company held 31 percent share of the overall motorcycle market in the quarter, whereas its sports segment bike rage Pulsar held market share of 50 percent with sales of 262,000 units in the third quarter of the current fiscal, according to the statement.
In terms of commercial vehicles, like passenger and goods three-wheeler carriers, Bajaj Auto achieved a growth of 13 percent, which stood at 108,363 units as against 96,167 units in the corresponding period of 2009-10 fiscal.
