Are modern women nightmare bosses?
December 5th, 2011 - 2:26 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Dec 5 (IANS) While the women fraternity spent decades battling its way to the top in business ladder, their success at the workplace has given rise to a new phenomenon — the nightmare female boss, says a British study.
Experts claim that an increasing number of women in positions of power are bullying colleagues and employees, the Daily Mail reported.
Even as such a behaviour is more commonly related to male bosses, a survey by the British Association of Anger Management found a fifth of women bosses admitting to shouting or being verbally abusive at work.
Ten percent of the women executives admitted to blaming and shaming colleagues when things went wrong. Almost 90 percent of those surveyed said, they had experienced a rise in stress, with more than 60 percent citing poor management being the reason for their anxiety.
High-flying women are now encountering the psychological problems that have historically blighted the lives of men at the top, said Mike Fisher, the association’s director.
He said: “The main reason for an increase in anger is the inability to deal with stress. Women tend to pay more attention to detail than men so they sweat over the small things.
“They can be short-tempered and abrupt, and make underhanded critical remarks. It can be interpreted by colleagues as bullying.”
