Appu Ghar to return in Gurgaon
September 30th, 2011 - 10:34 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) Delhi’s much loved and remembered amusement park Appu Ghar, which shut shop in 2008, is all set to make a comeback by next year in the national capital region.
Inaugurated in 1984, Appu Ghar was shut down to make way for a wing of the Supreme Court. A part of its land was used by the Delhi Metro to build a station.
The new park would come up in two separate complexes in sector 29 and 52 A of Gurgaon, around two km apart and connected by shuttle buses. The project is a joint venture of International Amusement Limited (IAL) and Unitech group.
“Built over an area of 58 acres, Appu Ghar will have an amusement park, water park, shopping mall and a sports club,” said Gian Vijeshwar, chairman of IAL.
“A part of it would be opened by March next year while the whole project would be completed within two years,” he added.
According to IAL, the new Appu Ghar is being designed keeping in mind the diverse cultures of the country and handicrafts and folk arts will get prominence in the designing.
“Along with the park, a themed retail complex and a sports park would also be housed in the premises. It will host top national and international brands, clubs, pubs and eating joints,” said Robin Vijeshwar, managing director, IAL.
