Apple sells million iPads in first four weeks
May 3rd, 2010 - 11:37 pm ICT by IANSSan Francisco, May 3 (DPA) Apple has sold 1 million iPads in the four weeks since the much-hyped tablet computers hit the market, the company said Monday.
The robust sales figures reflected widespread popularity of the device, which is expected to herald a surge in demand for tablet computers that are controlled via a touch screen interface rather than the mouse and keyboard that have dominated personal computing so far.
“One million iPads in 28 days - that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Apple chief executive Steve Jobs. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”
The iPad is currently only available in the US - meaning that one of every 300 Americans already owns one of the devices. The larger than expected demand prompted Apple to delay the international release of the device until the end of May.
