Apple beats Google in ‘war of global brands’

Moscow, May 9 (IANS/RIA Novosti) The strength of iPhone and iPad sales has pushed Apple ahead of Google for the first time as the most valuable brand in the world, global brands agency Millward Brown said in its annual report.
The value of the Apple brand rose by 84 percent to $153.3 billion, while the value of the Google brand, which has been on top of global rankings for four years, dropped by 2 percent to $111.5 billion, according to the annual BrandZ study of the world’s top 100 brands.
Overall, technology and telecom companies dominated this year’s rankings with IBM (3rd place), Microsoft (5th), AT&T; (7th) and China Mobile (9th) also being in the Top 10.
Social network Facebook entered the top 100 at number 35 with the brand valued at $19.1 billion.
“The Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands are collectively worth $2.4 trillion,” the study said.
