September 30th, 2011 - 7:22 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) The Supreme Court Friday cancelled the bail of alleged money launderer Hasan Ali Khan, described as the country’s top tax evader.
The apex court bench of Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice S.S. Nijjar said that Hasan Ali had three passports and that the money attributed to him was the proceeds of crime could not be ruled out.
The court noted that the links of Hasan Ali with international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi were also under the scanner.
The judges said that the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) apprehension that he would abscond if set large on bail were well placed.
The court said that the Bombay High Court judgment granting bail to Hasan Ali needed to be “interfered” with.
Hasan Ali, who is being investigated by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for allegedly stashing away money in tax havens, was granted bail by the high court Aug 12.
