Dec 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The dispute between AMR Corp’s American Airlines and online travel agency Orbitz Worldwide has finally got a verdict. On Tuesday an Illinois court said that the American Airlines was no longer bound to sell tickets through Orbitz Worldwide. According to reports, American Airlines has announced that it will not be displaying and selling its tickets out to the customers through Orbitz Worldwide and Orbitz for Business.
An American Airlines spokesperson said that the airline carrier would continue to sell its tickets through the other outlets which certainly does not include Orbitz Worldwide. The outlets that would be selling American Airlines tickets would be the home website of American Airlines itself along with that of Priceline.com. Travelport LP, which is a share holder of Orbitz, having 48 percent share in it had requested for an injunction to the law with regard to this case. However, it came up as a sad news for both Orbitz and its shareholders who did not see any positive outcome. The court had simply denied the petition. According to a source, Martin Agran, Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County had refused their request. Travelport LP had filed for an injunction that seeked to stop American Airlines from taking away their flights from Orbitz.
As per reports, American Airlines, which is the country’s third largest airline had earlier issued out warning notices that it would severe all its ties with Orbitz if they did not start using the direct link which led to the Airline’s inventory. The notice was supposedly issued out on December 1. Last month that attempt was barred by an American court. However, after this recent development, Orbitz officials are trying out their best to re-kindle their relationship with the airline.
