Alpana-Neeraj drift away from traditional bridal wear
August 10th, 2010 - 4:04 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 10 (IANS) Imagine wearing a lehenga with a corset inspired by military elements. This and many more unusal outfits have been churned out by design duo Alpana-Neeraj for the contemporary bride.
“We have been getting requests from our clients to churn out something different. Younger people are bored of wearing the same traditional gowns, anarkalis and lehengas. So, we have tried to fuse Indian sensibilities with the western look and churned out something different,” Alpana told IANS.
“You will see lehengas with a corset and a churidar, a lot of 3-D embroidery, accessorised with leather trims, belts and buckles - giving this whole collection an edgy and elegant feeling,” she added.
This Delhi-based designer duo is mainly known for its pret lines, but this is the first time they have churned out a bridal collection.
They will participate in the wedding exhibition, Bridal Asia, that will take place Sep 11-13 at the Ashoka Hotel.
“We didn’t want to get stuck with the label of pret designers, so we thought we should do something different. We thought it is the right time to bring out this line,” Alpana said.
As many as 50 designers will participate in the 12th edition of Bridal Asia that boasts of big names like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Pallavi Jaikishan, Rina Dhaka, Falguni & Shane Peacock and Jaya Rathore.
According to Bridal Asia CEO Divya Gurwara, the event has been consistent as a platform for designers to showcase, unveil and launch their bridal lines.
