IndiGo New Delhi, Jan 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Indian airliner, IndiGo has placed an order for about 180 Airbus planes.

The budget airliner will pay about $15.6 billion for the planes and the deal is the biggest that the plane-maker has made for commercial flights. Airbus confirmed the deal.

The airline announced last August that it plans to take international routes and as such wanted to add about 150 planes to their 100 planes that they currently have. The planes ordered include 30 classic A320s which is considered Airbus’s best selling plane. The other 150 will be an upgraded version of the A320s called the “A320neo” which Airbus promise that will offer significant fuel savings for the company from 2016. The A320neo was launched in December and it seems IndiGo is the first customer.

IndiGo is currently involved in domestic flights in the country. That is set to change because of the many opportunities that the growing Indian economy presents.

India, as is projected, is one of the biggest growing economies in the world. The country’s growth has opened an unprecedented opportunities to the airliners in the country which IndiGo no doubt wants to take advantage of.
