Air India to join Star Alliance by July
May 20th, 2011 - 12:19 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 19 (IANS) National carrier Air India Thursday said its induction process into global airline association Star Alliance would be achieved in July.
“The company has already complied with the minimum joining requirements (MJR), which were mandatory for joining the (Star) Alliance,” the airline said in a statement.
According to the statement, the main hindrance for the airline in joining the alliance was a single code for Air India and merged Indian Airlines that was overcome Feb 27, when a single ‘AI’ code was adopted.
“Air India’s entry into Star Alliance that consists of 27 top carriers, will give its passengers access to a network of 21,000 daily flights to 1,160 airports in 181 destinations.”
The flag carrier said that its induction into the alliance would allow passengers to avail enormous benefits like seamless transfers between member airlines, frequent flyer mileage points, wider choice of flights and access to lounge facilities worldwide.
