Air India cancels more than 60 Mumbai flights
April 30th, 2011 - 12:58 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, April 30 (IANS) Air India cancelled more than 60 flights to and from Mumbai Saturday, the fourth day of a strike by nearly half of the airline’s 1,600 pilots, official sources said.
These included 37 arrivals and 25 outgoing flights to various destinations since midnight, the sources said.
However, as part of its contingency plan, the airline managed to operate five flights out of Mumbai till 11.30 a.m. Friday.
Presently, Air India is operating flights as per its contingency schedule, given the limited number of pilots available.
The strike has already cost the airline more than Rs.26 crore since it began Tuesday midnight. No new bookings are being made for the next five days.
The striking pilot-members of the Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) are mainly those who worked in the erstwhile Indian Airlines, which was merged with Air India. They are demanding pay parity with Air India pilots and other issues related to work conditions.
