New York City, Dec 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The American International Group better known as AIG, had pledged to return back the millions of dollars it had paid as bonuses to its staff-members. But even as 2009 draws to a close, the pledge is just an empty promise, that hasn’t been fulfilled till now. The Washington Post reports, “As the final days of 2009 tick away, a majority of that money remains unpaid.”

In March it was reported that the insurance company AIG was paying its top-executives bonuses to the tune of millions of dollars, whereas it was showing a $61 billion loss and getting $170 billion in bailout. This had outraged the fury of many of the hardworking people, whose money was being used to bailout AIG, whereas its top executives were enjoying millions of dollars in bonuses. There was a big hue and cry over this and AIG had pledged that it would return the bonus money. But reports suggest that still a majority of it is to be paid back.

The honest Claire McCaskill has introduced legislation, which would effectively place a restriction on the salaries of the employees of these bailed out companies thus ending the bonus situation if that particular company in question has received taxpayer funds.
