AIG Bonus Pledge Remains Just That - An Unfulfilled Pledge

Dec 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It was earlier this year that AIG or the American International group went on to claim that its downfall had been brought on by the $165 million it had paid to its esteemed employees as bonus amounts. This became a major source of outrage and even went far enough that the employees started getting “death threats”. The issue also saw newly elected President of US, trying to stop these payments being made out. The company’s officials agreed to return the vulgar amount of bonuses that they had received when the attorney general of New York city-Andrew M.Cuomo-threatened that he would make there names public.
This incident took place earlier this year on March, however the same bonus amounts have still not been paid even as the year of 2009 comes to an end. From about $165 million, reportedly only $19 million have come back. The other employees decided to leave their jobs at AIG to avoid cashing out. The remaining employees, who have done neither, are still awaiting decision from Kenneth R. Feinberg, who had promised to pay them bonuses in the future too.
The insurance company, is still tangled over the debate as to the “status of the past and future bonuses”. Lawyers and firms are being appointed even now by employees to fight back in case their bonus payments are stopped in any way. It should also be brought to the notice of the general public that a retention payment will once again be becoming due soon at the company. Andrew M.Cuomo’s office remains silent about the whole issue.

What makes me literally want to vomit is that I have a very good friend that works for a division of AIG as a local branch manager. He has not received a bonus (that makes up a good portion of a manager’s salary) since the whole thing started due to the government probe yet the bigwigs who are getting REAL bonuses refuse to cough up what was already promised. Disgusting and business at it’s worst!!

Bonuses??? Why do many of these executives that were responsible for the bad decisions still have a job? Without the bailout money this company was in fact bankrupt. There is a total disconnect here.
