AI aircraft maintenance facility to be commissioned Friday

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 14 (IANS) Air India’s aircraft maintenance unit, which has been set up to the new international terminal building of Thiruvananthapuram airport, will be inaugurated on Friday, the flag carrier said.
Set up on a 15 acre plot of land that was given by the state government, the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during the first UPA government’s tenure.
The facility would be commissioned by Vayalar Ravi, Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs who currently holds additional charge of Civil Aviation.
This Rs.70 crore facility will do the day-to-day maintenance of Boeing 737-800 aircraft used by Air India Express and attend at a time to two aircraft.
Air India Express, the budget airline of the national carrier currently has 21 aircraft.
Billed as the state of the art facility, with solar facility it has 10,000 sq.mts of apron besides a 5000 sq m workshop, warehouse and office space.
