After UAE, Saudi Arabia mulls consulate in Kerala
October 11th, 2011 - 8:44 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, Oct 11 (IANS) With the United Arab Emirates set to open a consulate in Kerala, a Saudi diplomat Tuesday met Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and said his country too was mulling the possibility of opening a consulate here.
An official of Chandy’s office informed the media here that the Saudi official Saqr Suleiman Al-Quarshi said that his country is seriously considering the opening of a consulate in Kerala.
The meeting between Chandy and the Saudi diplomat also opened vistas for cooperation between Saudi Arabia oil major Aram Co. and Kerala as the former is now eyeing India to source its requirements. It has asked for a Kerala delegation to visit it to take forward this aspect of installing a permanent set-up for sourcing materials.
Another important issue settled at the meeting was that the state-run Roots-Norka, the organisation responsible for all the needs of the diaspora, will now be recognised as an agency for recruitment for jobs in Saudi Arabia.
