New Delhi, June 9 (IANS) Global hospitality major Accor has signed an agreement with Bangalore-based developer Brigade Enterprises to manage and operate a serviced residence project in the city. Scheduled to open by 2008-end, the serviced residences named Mercure Homestead Residences, will cater to the business traveller market, particularly people from the IT and biotechnology industries.
Accor Asia Pacific chairman and chief operating officer Michael Issenberg said India was poised for “bumper growth in tourism” over the next few years, and the tie-up provided Accor “a tremendous beginning” for the Mercure brand in the country.
“We believe Mercure, a mid-scale brand, has a great future in India and we do expect we will reach a number of other agreements this year to develop Mercure hotels,” Issenberg said. “We are actively seeking business opportunities throughout India to further expand our network.”
Brigade Enterprises chairman M.R. Jaishankar said, “The serviced apartments segment is perhaps the strongest performing in Bangalore’s hospitality sector.”
With the latest addition of the Mercure Homestead Residences, Accor now has four properties in India - two are slated to open by 2008-end: Ibis Gurgaon in New Delhi and the Novotel Hyderabad Airport.
