Abu Dhabi to give $19 mn for Mali dam project
November 30th, 2010 - 1:00 am ICT by IANSAbu Dhabi, Nov 29 (IANS/WAM) Abu Dhabi will give 70 million dirhams (about $19 million) to Mali for building a dam and a 25 MW power generating unit, it was announced Monday.
Acting director general of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, and Mali’s minister in charge of budget Lassina Bouare, signed an agreement in Mali for financing the Taoussa Dam project.
Al Suwaidi said: “The project includes the construction of the dam and a 130-km road leading to it.”
A hydro-electric power plant to be built at the site will generate 25 MW of electricity.
The project will also help irrigate about 130 hectares of agricultural land.
