740 Job Cuts Announced By B.A.E Systems In It’s Military Aerospace Business

London, United Kingdom, Sep 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) BAE Systems, a British defense, security and aerospace company has decided to cut jobs. Ahead of the government’s defense spending review, the BAE Systems on early Thursday came up with announcements that it has plans to cut around 740 jobs in its military aerospace business. The job cuts would be done in five of the company’s U.K. sites.
The B.A.E spokeswoman said to media sources on Thursday that the company has made the announcement within its U.K. Military Air Solutions business which will now hold a consultation process around the proposed 740 job losses. B.A.E which is considered as one of the largest defense contractor in Europe held that the job cuts are being done keeping in mind the workload changes. It will reportedly help the company to maintain an efficient and lean profile. The B.A.E maintained however, that “A program of rationalization and efficiencies remains ongoing”.
The job cuts will be done from B.A.E’s Brough, Farnborough, Chadderton, Samlesbury, and Warton sites. However, the number of job cuts would not be restricted to 740. The Unite union said that a further 206 job cuts would be done at B.A.E’s Systems Integrated System Technologies (Insyte) unit, leading to the total number of job losses to around 946. The B.A.E however maintained that the job cuts at its Insyte unit was announced last November and is not related to its present job cuts. It mentioned that consultation process regarding Insyte unit jobs cuts will continue as it had done before. By the end of 2011, 206 jobs would be lost according to Rory Fisher, the managing director of B.A.E’s Integrated System Technologies division.
