60,000 Punjab power board employees strike work
March 31st, 2010 - 12:33 am ICT by IANSChandigarh, March 30 (IANS) Nearly 60,000 employees of Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Tuesday struck work to protest the state government’s decision to privatise the power agency and to press their demands.
“We are totally against the privatisation of the PSEB’s work. Besides, there are many long-pending demands and despite our repeated reminders and appeals the concerned authorities are quite indifferent to them,” a member of PSEB Employees Union said.
About their demands, he said the employees demanded immediate increments in their salaries and also wanted the government to ensure a job for the kin if an employee died during service.
A senior PSEB official said despite the strike, there was no major disruption in the power supply in the state.
