4,850 cases of power theft in 3 months in Delhi
April 8th, 2011 - 8:04 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 8 (IANS) Nearly 4,850 cases of power theft, amounting to over 34,000 kilowatts, in south and west Delhi were reported in last three months, officials from power department said Friday.
Private power distribution company BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) conducted about 180 raids since January 2011 in south and west Delhi, including late-night and early-morning inspections.
“The massive crack-down has unearthed nearly 22,000 KW of power theft load in west Delhi and nearly 12,700 KW in south Delhi,” said a BRPL official.
West Delhi also takes the lead in number of power theft cases as nearly 3,477 cases have been booked since January 2011, compared to 1,363 cases from south Delhi during the corresponding period, the official said.
Over 1.71 lakh (1.05 lakh by BSES and 63,000 by Bharat Yamuna Power Limited) cases for power theft, amounting to a power load of over 1,100 MW, have been recorded in Delhi since 2002.
