The number of rail passenger trips during this summer’s travel season (July 1 to Aug 31) will be 41.27 million more than a year earlier, or an increase of 12.7 percent year-on-year, the railways ministry stated on its website.
Most railway passengers this summer will be tourists, while students returning home for their summer vacation will also put pressure on train travel, the ministry stated.
The country’s railway system will transport an average of 5.89 million people per day during the season.
