On Saturday, 35000 people marched through the British capital to call for action on jobs and climate change. Police concerns now focus on what protesters are calling ‘Financial Fools Day’ on Wednesday.
Last Thursday’s, a group of 20 protectors in London were bracing for angry protests and will see fortress-like security for world leaders including US President Barack Obama.
Now,the police are refusing to give an exact number of personnel involved, saying only the operation will entail 10,500 rostered police shifts of eight hours and cost more than 7.5 million pounds.
The activists say they will invade the City of London financial district and set up an environmental camp for April 1. All holidays for officers in London have been cancelled for the summit and police have been called in from five other forces to bolster available resources.
This Wednesday, the protestors will attempt to disrupt the capital’s financial district will approach in a series of anti-capitalism and pro-environment demonstrations, dubbed the ‘Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse’.
